We held another highly successful Children’s Disco run by our fabulous parent management committee in July. It was followed by a productive and happy Term 3. We suffered some damage, now repaired, due to the various brief but fierce storms that have struck in the last few months but mostly we have revelled in the mild weather this winter. The children are busy learning new skills, testing themselves, soaking up new knowledge and enjoying each other’s company.
The important routine events of the term like earthquake and fire drills, gardening and caring for our rabbits have been punctuated by special occasions like School Photo Day, Dress Up Day to celebrate Maria Montessori’s birthday, an Open Day and the performance of a lively show “The Pond” put on here at the school by a travelling theatre company. We concluded the term with a Children’s Day Out at the Movies during the first weekend of the October school holidays.
We have created lovely new reading areas on our decks with pot plants, child-sized sofas, colourful soft mats and woven baskets full of wonderful books. Having an attractive area set aside for reading outside as well as inside helps make evident the value we place on books and on reading. We encourage everyone to DEAR – Drop Everything And Read to your child.
